Grid@IASA
As user applications demand an ever-increasing amount of processing power, individual computing sites frequently find their
resources inadequate to respond to the growing demand of their users. In this ever-demanding and ever-changing world,
Grid Computing can provide a dependable, flexible and seemingly non-ending source of computing power.
Having recognized the opportunity provided by Grid computing, the IASA IT/Grid division
(partner of GRNET), through the hosting of the
HG-02-IASA and GR-06-IASA clusters, participates in the largest European Grid infrastructure ever built: the EGEE Infrastructure.

The HG-02-IASA site has been a production site since the 23rd of March 2006
(the running status of the site is provided
here - GStat portal). The node’s computing hardware consists of two racks of 64 HP
servers with dual Intel Xeon CPUs at 3.4GHz, plus 1 more node Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz.

StorageThe site includes a SAN that controls the 14 SCSI disks (300GB each) of the main storage and one fiber switch to connect the servers to the storage array. The total raw capacity of the Storage Element is 4.2TB. GR-06-IASAProcessing power/services
The GR-06-IASA site has been also a production site since the 23rd of March 2006 (the running status of the site is provided here - GStat portal). The node’s computing hardware consists of two racks of 13 servers with dual AMD Athlon CPUs at 2.0GHz. All servers have 80GB hard disks, 1GB RAM and two CPUs, that comprise the core elements of the EGEE infrastructure (computing elements - CEs, storage element - SE and monitoring - MON). The remaining 10 machines act as Working Nodes. The core services that are provided by the GR-06-IASA grid site are listed in the Table 2 and are presented graphically at Figure 2. *a full list of Grid acronyms can be found here.
